Moses

Keep a Record of the Things you Witness Me do

"Now the Lord said to Moses, 'Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son's son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.'" - Exodus 10:1,2

(Bible Study Online Article Covers : Exodus 10:1-6)

Short Recap?

In the last article we'd discovered that the Lord had used the "hail storm judgment" to destroy not just the livestock and the Egyptians that were left in the fields, but He'd also used this storm to destroy a major portion of the Egyptians grain supply for that year as well. I state that it was a portion of the grain supply, for the simple fact that the wheat and spelt crops, had not come in to be harvested by the Egyptians by the time that the Lord had unleashed the "hail storm judgment" upon the land:

"Now the flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the head and the flax was in bud.

"But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they are late crops." - Exodus 9:31,32

The Sacred Record had also revealed that the "hail storm judgment" was so severe, that it'd caused Pharaoh to quickly reach out...

...to Moses and Aaron, in the hopes that they would intercede on his behalf to the Most High: "And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, 'I have sinned this time. The Lord is righteous, and my people and I are wicked. Entreat the Lord, that there may be no more mighty thundering and hail, for it is enough. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.'" - Exodus 9:27,28

And of course Moses had kept his word, for he eventually went out from the city in order to pray for the Egyptian ruler and his kingdom, just like he'd promised: "So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh and spread out his hands to the Lord; then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth." - Exodus 9:33

The Egyptian Loyalists?

And although God would honor Moses' prayer request when it came to Pharaoh and his kingdom, we now find that the Egyptian ruler would once again renege on his word, when it came to Moses and the Israelites. And not only would we learn that Pharaoh had hardened his heart once again, the Sacred Record would also point out, that those who'd decided to stay loyal to Pharaoh, had also, harden their hearts as well. Which I find interesting, being that these Egyptian loyalists' had ignored the clear warning that the One True God had given them. And because of their blind loyalty that they had when it came to Pharaoh, they too, would pay a heavy price for going against the Most High.

A Costly Experience - Wasted?

But unfortunately for these Egyptian loyalists' this costly experience would seem to be lost on them, for they continued to stand with Pharaoh and his advisors, instead of them taking heed to the message that the Holy One of Israel was sending through Moses: "And when Pharaoh saw that the rain, the hail, and the thunder had ceased, he sinned yet more; and he hardened his heart, he and his servants. So the heart of Pharaoh was hard; neither would he let the children of Israel go, as the Lord had spoken by Moses." - Exodus 9:34,35

And although this experience would seem to be lost on those who'd harden their hearts, the Lord would see to it, that perhaps, this rebellious and prideful stance by Pharaoh and his loyalists would serve as an "warning example" for those generations that were to follow: "Now the Lord said to Moses, 'Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son's son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.'" - Exodus 10:1,2

Which Side of Eternity - Will You Choose?

From within this passage we find God instructing Moses to record all that he has witnessed when it came to how He dealt with the Egyptians on the Israelites behalf. For the Sacred Record will not only show that the Most High is the True God - but it would also show that the Lord always keeps His promises when it comes to those who are found to be in His covenant (Old & New).

For you must understand that during this part of the overall "redemption process" when it comes to mankind, the Lord (at this time) will show the world through the Israelites, that He's the One True God. He will make it clear, over and over again, that whatever the human race can conjure up (philosophically, or in scientific theory), it won't ever come close to replacing Him.

God will also use the Egyptians at this point in time - to show that there will always be that certain element of humanity that will always be in opposition to Him, and to those who have chosen to follow Him, no matter what. I'm curious... Have you ever thought about which side of eternity you may end up on? Hopefully you know that you do have a choice?

Another Plague - Another Warning?

However, let's move forward...

"So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, 'Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: "How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me. Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.

"And they shall cover the face of the earth, so that no one will be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field.

"They shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians - which neither your fathers nor your fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day."' And he turned and went out from Pharaoh." - Exodus 10:3-6

The Last Plague - Could Have Been A Precursor?

Know that it's from within these passages that we find God using Moses and Aaron to warn Pharaoh on what's coming next if the Egyptian ruler doesn't quickly humble himself, by giving in to Moses' demands. For we find Moses prophesying about locusts' being unleashed upon the Egyptian kingdom if Pharaoh doesn't cave. These were the passages that led me to label God's last "judgment plague" as a "precursor" to this one.

For we find that this "locust plague" will destroy anything that was left over from the previous plague - anything that had escaped: "...they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field."

God Upping the Ante?

And of course we find God once again; upping the ante with this next "judgment plague" for it would be more severe than the last. You see in the previous "plague" one could have found relief from God's wrath if you had stayed indoors, like He'd instructed them to do. But now we find that this is no longer the case: "They shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians - which neither your fathers nor your fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day."

Now in the next article, we will take a look at which Egyptian deity that this "judgment plague" may have been targeting.
